I believe there are numerous legacy ideas on leadership need to be changed.

  • Managing people is a 1980s construct. People want to be led, not managed. No one wakes up in the morning thinking, “I can’t wait to be managed (or micromanaged) by my boss.”
  • Focusing only on results drives good employees away (witness the Great Resignation and Quiet Quitting trends).
  • There is a gap between what employees need to succeed and how leaders think they should manage.
  • Leaders need to unlearn management and relearn to be human. And learn to be people-centric leaders.
  • Leaders must apply new mindsets, skills, and behaviors to become successful people-centric leaders.
