March: Global Women

Sexism is the cause of inequity for women and girls so it would be great to use that as the broad topic. How does sexism cause inequity? Via microaggression, discrimination, harassment and violence. Examples, stories. What can be done about it? What’s the role of allies? How can equity be embraced by all?

• Okay and then before I invite someone what will the theme be for that day? The theme of women’s day is Embrace Equity which is broad. Do we want to start broad?

• The term “equity” refers to fairness and justice and is distinguished from equality: Whereas equality means providing the same to all, equity means recognizing that we do not all start from the same place and must acknowledge and make adjustments to imbalances.

• Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality. Collectively we can all #EmbraceEquity.

• Celebrate women’s achievement. Raise awareness about discrimination. Take action to drive gender parity. IWD belongs to everyone, everywhere. Inclusion means all IWD action is valid.
