UK view: Creative Line Managers Taking on More HR Responsibility

LONDON, August 6, 2012 — As the importance of good HR practice grows, line managers in the creative industry agencies are increasingly stepping up, according to the 2012/2013 HR guide called Major Players’ latest workpocket, produced by parent company, Randstad, provides a brilliant reference tool for HR professionals and line managers alike.

Some responsibilities are still new and unfamiliar to line managers, but fulfilled they present an opportunity to boost employee engagement and look after an agency family better – crucial outcomes for many businesses but for start-ups and boutiques in particular.

Jack Gratton, CEO of Major Players, comments: “The creative industry has always prided itself on a great cultural environment, with hard work taking place in a fun and innovative atmosphere. However, the ways organisations deploy, develop and motivate talent are as crucial to survival and success than ever. Line managers have a pivotal role to play in this process.”

Randstad’s 10th annual Workpocket HR Guide provides accessible and practical advice for line managers to assist them in fulfilling their new HR responsibilities. Additionally, the guide provides best practice insights for HR professionals themselves, as they too cope with managing large changes brought about by the economy and new legislation. The guide includes examples from leading organisations including O2 and McDonald’s.

In the dedicated line manager section, the Workpocket HR Guide advises on day-to-day recruitment, motivation, appraisals, and training and development.

Mark Bull, Randstad UK CEO, adds: “The Randstad Workpocket has been crafted by employment experts as a key reference source for anyone dealing with HR and employment issues. As line managers face the task of delivering on sometimes new and unfamiliar set of responsibilities, we are pleased to be able to provide guidance to them in understanding and embracing their evolving role.”
