Legal Briefing; Immigrant talent in the INTELLIGENT AGE

LEGAL BRIEFING

The Critical Nature of Immigrant Talent In the Intelligent Age

  1. We are living in what has been dubbed “The Intelligent Age,” a time of unprecedented acceleration of new intelligence, including AI and other emerging technologies that are fueling every aspect of infrastructure and invention in our universe, and transforming our lives, security, and society daily
  2. To capture the momentum of this transformation, we need to marshal the skills and capabilities of the brightest minds in science, technology, mathematics, and engineering, as well as the most agile leadership
  3. Yet our developed economies are facing the most limited pool of talent to date, as population rates are declining.  In the US, we know that as of this year, any surge in labor will depend fully on immigrant talent.
  4. The equation is unequivocal – absent invitation and influx of immigrant students, scientists, engineers, and executives, we will not even be able to maintain continuity of labor, much less expand and adapt to the new age of intelligence development.
  5. And our foundational social security and tax revenues will be eroded absent their entry.
  6. The political debate remains focused on a fairly antiquated zero-sum view of migration – each immigrant that enters takes a job away from an American.  That analysis fails to evaluate the reality of the supply curve, which expands as more immigrants with talent enter the job zones – they innovate and expand the job pool.
  7. The better question to focus on is how to channel migration to optimize the entry of the talent we most need.
