I recently read a statement from a world-famous engineer about the change that will occur over the next few years. He said:
“If you can keep yourself from doing anything stupid, like jumping off a cliff with a bungee cord, anything you can do to keep from dying or being killed, do it. Because you are about to see a massive amount of exciting change over the next three to five years that doesn’t even occur over three or four lifetimes.”
We all know the rate of change has exploded. The question becomes how will we use it? Or will we be threatened by it?
My brother works as a senior scientist/manager in the high-tech industry. He’s one of “those engineers” who reads calculus books for fun.
Several years ago, he asked me for career advice, and he is now one of the highest-paid, most sought-after people in his field. Here is what I told him:

Identify ways to leverage it and make it useful for your company to:
1. become more effective and efficient in their production of products
2. use for customers (create new market opportunities).
Number 2 propelled him to the top.

As leaders, we need to help our employees embrace change. Here is what I have learned:
1. Let your people know it is coming.
2. Find out how it may affect your team.
3. Let them know it always works out.
4. Change is a growth opportunity.
5. Last, this is for you as a leader: no one wants to work for a chicken, at least not for long. Instead, learn to be confident and composed—Your people need you to be this way.
The following diagram comes from Pamela Coburn-Litvak. Her graphics are outstanding. This graphic shows the steps to dealing with change and helping your people embrace it.
In addition, here are two short videos I did on the topic of change:
