Profile photo of Fahmeeda KhanI’ve got an interesting guest lined up for next Thursday if we can record a little earlier than normal.

She is Fahmeeda Khan in Cape Town.

https://www.linkedin.com/in/fahmeeda-khan-0b6a3014

Growing up in the apartheid regime, she was assigned to a “colored” school as she is mixed race. Loving math, she decided to become an engineer as was the only female studying engineering at university.

Her career has been with a nuclear power plant in South Africa and then with Chevron in South Africa (including a two-year stint in California). Both of these, of course, are male-dominated industries (and in South Africa are white male dominated industries).

Today she is the Technical Service Manager for Astron Energy (they bought Chevron’s operations in South Africa) and is the only female technical person on their executive team.

During her career she continued to develop herself, including getting certified as a coach. She has brought the coaching model into the mid-level leadership ranks at Chevron/Astron Energy.

Anyway, she has lots of lessons for women, especially women of color, in how to be successful in male-dominated industries and male-dominated college programs.

Her LinkedIn profile is at https://www.linkedin.com/in/fahmeeda-khan-0b6a3014/

Due to the time zones, her preferred time is 6pm South Africa, which would be 9am for you and 11am for you.

Are you available to do the show at this time next week?

All the best,

Steven
