Hi Ed,

Both ideas sound excellent. The “California only” concept makes a lot of  sense because—just like we’re a separate category for SHRM—we have specialty needs that set the standard for the rest of country.  Topics might focus on HR, legal, or regulatory, for example, since California often sets its standards higher than most other states (with the possible exception of New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Illinois).  You could also dedicate a topic to doing business in California (for companies that want to expand here) or exiting California (for companies that want to focus on alternatives like Houston, Knoxville, Phoenix, Las Vegas, or other cities that are vying for California relocations). Finally, you can consider an industry focus for hi tech, biotech, and entertainment—all synonymous with California business.

In terms of the second concept below, you can have carveouts across the 52 weeks that focus on emerging leaders, those in career transition, people looking to transfer from one discipline to another (e.g., sales to marketing or finance to HR), those who want to consider going solo and opening their own business, and the like. The greater the topical variety, the broader the net you’ll cast.

Anyway, those are just my initial thoughts, and I hope they help a bit as you begin to put “meat on the bones” for the upcoming rollouts!  Happy Easter and Passover and wishing you and Jo Anne a lovely weekend. – Paul
