Introduction:

Elisabeth Constantin:  She’s a global HR service delivery expert who was recently voted among the world’s Top 250 leaders in her area of expertise for 2022 and also the founder and owner of Abreo Career Services.
She is based in Nashville, Tennessee and recently made a transition from pro-bono career coaching to starting her own company. Today her boutique firm helps professionals, leaders and executives push their careers to the next level with resumes that focus on value-add, business impact and enhance clients’ understanding of their applicant value before engaging with corporate recruiters and headhunters.
Talking Point Suggestions:

Fun Intro – Maybe?: It’s been a while. Everyone learned something new during Covid? What did you learn? (roadbiking). What did you learn, Ed?
  • Keyword ‘Great Resignation’ – what does the talent landscape look like in 2022 and – if you can speculate – beyond? What’s your perspective both as an HR Leader and a business owner?
    • Talent turnover remains high due to post-Covid attrition of previously stagnant employees and re-calibration of values (workloads, mental health, work life integration, pay, etc.)
    • Still an applicant market, especially for STEM and executives, with no signs of slowing down. Given legislation changes re. salary posting in some states and the cultural and further legislative impact this will have a slow-down in the ‘war for talent’ isn’t predicted
  • Lot’s going on – certainly seems like the right time to start your own firm. Has the Great Resignation changed the approach people take with their resumes? What changes do you see from a provider perspective?
    • More proactive approach from employees who want to ‘be ready’ for poaching
    • More and more employees get their resume ready to apply externally and then negotiate a higher salary with their current employer (%-increase per latest research)
    • More executives who never needed a resume because they were loyal to the organizations they served are starting to re-think their loyalty
    • Overall Covid Silver Lining that employees start to see their value more than ever before which is good for candidates but will continue to disrupt the market
  • (Ed – I will publish this weekend – will send to you).  You recently published an article “With resumes, its ‘Filet Mignon’, not ‘Crockpot’, says Executive Recruiter. Based on the headline I have an idea where you might be going with this, but as a professional in this space – what does the perfect resume look like?
    • High focus on accomplishments and business impact with metrics that matter (versus just day to day responsibilities)
    • Clean Layout, extremely concise, key-word optimized, tailored towards the role you seek next
  • Can you explain what keyword optimized means and why is it important?
    • Explain ATS and why it matters
  • Can you share a bit about yourself? What brought you into this space? You’re a global HR Leader by day and an entrepreneurial resume writer by night – how did that happen?
    • Share a bit about my background as an immigrant who learned resume writing to build her own career
    • Progression to resume writing as pro-bono first which is where I ‘cut my teeth’ before starting Abreo
  • What’s easier, ‘pro bono’ or ‘for profit’? Or maybe – how is it different?
    • speak about differences in demographics and impact
  • Who are your clients today? Who asks for help and what is the consistent theme that people need help with?
    • My company is a boutique firm, so very high touch, and we focus on professionals, senior leaders and executives – mostly for corporate functions, a lot of Finance, HR, Sales and Marketing, Operations – across the board really
    • Showcasing business impact is the biggest priority for 9 out of 10 resumes, followed by keyword optimization , then aesthetics
  • You’ve been in customer service for almost 3 decades. You worked through middle school, high school, university and then you started over when you moved to the U.S. at the age of 30. You’ve worked in retail, hospitality, agriculture, marketing and then later carved out a career in HR. On a fun note: What was the most unique/fun job you ever had and what did you learn that could be of value to others?

      • I worked the facilities trailers during a medieval fair for a week in college
      • Learned that quality work will always be rewarded and appreciated no matter what it is that you’re doing
      • Basic responsibility of customer services is to serve and provide an experience that exceeds expectations
